COMPARISON GUIDE
Ryker Clothing 5R vs IcedBallz
Ryker Clothing makes arguably the safest sauna underwear on the market — GOTS-certified organic cotton, OEKO-TEX certified Merino wool, zero polyester, third-party tested for BPA, PFAS, and phthalates. Their 5R system is genuinely thoughtful. But “safe” and “cooling” are not the same thing.
The Short Version
Ryker Clothing 5R Sauna Underwear is premium, natural-fiber underwear designed for sauna safety. Made from organic cotton and Merino wool with full GOTS and OEKO-TEX certifications, it avoids the harmful chemicals that synthetic brands can off-gas at high temperatures. No polyester, no BPA, no PFAS — just natural fibers.
IcedBallz is sauna-specific underwear with a built-in pocket that holds an anatomically shaped ice pack. You freeze the pack, slide it in, and get 45–60 minutes of genuine, active cooling — even at 95°C sauna temperatures. $69, ice pack included.
Ryker protects you from harmful chemicals. IcedBallz protects you from harmful heat. They solve different problems. But if your goal is to keep your testicles cool during a sauna session, natural fibers alone won't do it.
What Ryker Clothing Gets Right
Ryker deserves credit for something most brands ignore entirely — the safety of the fabrics themselves at high heat:
- ✓100% natural fibers — organic cotton and Merino wool, zero polyester
- ✓GOTS certified — Global Organic Textile Standard for organic materials
- ✓OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class 1 — tested for hundreds of harmful substances, safe for prolonged skin contact
- ✓Third-party tested — confirmed free of BPA, PFAS, and phthalates
- ✓Merino wool benefits — naturally odor-resistant, breathable, temperature-regulating for normal conditions
- ✓Anti-plastic mission — actively campaigns against polyester off-gassing in saunas
This is all genuinely important. If you're wearing synthetic underwear in a 95°C sauna, there's a legitimate concern about microplastics and chemical leaching. Ryker addresses this head-on.
The Problem: Safe Fabric ≠ Active Cooling
Here's the issue. Ryker's underwear is made from organic cotton and Merino wool. Both are natural, breathable, and safe. But neither of these materials cools you at 95°C.
The Physics:
- • Cotton is breathable — it lets air through. At 90°C, that air is 90°C. Breathing 90°C air onto your skin doesn't cool it.
- • Merino wool is temperature-regulating — in normal conditions. It insulates when cold and breathes when warm. But at 95°C, it can only “regulate” toward ambient temperature, which is 95°C.
- • Natural fibers don't generate cold. They can only manage heat transfer. When the environment is hotter than your body, they can't create a temperature differential.
Ryker's own marketing focuses on safety— protecting you from chemicals. It does not claim to cool your testicles. That's because natural cotton and wool at 95°C are still 95°C against your skin. They're just safe 95°C fibers instead of toxic95°C fibers.

Why Natural Fibers Don't Cool in Extreme Heat
There are three ways your body cools itself: evaporation, convection, and radiation. Natural fibers like cotton and Merino wool help with all three — but only when the ambient temperature is lower than your body temperature.
In a 95°C sauna, all three mechanisms work against you:
- ✗Evaporation — at 90–100°C, sauna air is nearly saturated (high humidity). Sweat can't evaporate efficiently. Cotton absorbs sweat but can't release it into saturated air.
- ✗Convection — the air flowing over your skin is 95°C. More airflow = more heat transfer onto your body, not off it.
- ✗Radiation — the sauna walls, rocks, and bench radiate infrared heat. Natural fibers are transparent to infrared radiation.
The only way to maintain a lower temperature than the surrounding environment is to introduce an external cold source. That's exactly what IcedBallz does — a frozen ice pack held in an anatomically shaped pocket creates a localized zone of active cooling that no fabric, however natural or certified, can replicate.
The Honest Take
If you care about avoiding synthetic chemicals in the sauna — and that's a legitimate concern — Ryker is the best natural-fiber option available. Their certifications are real, their mission is genuine, and the product is well-reviewed for comfort and safety.
But if you want to actually keep your testicles coolduring a sauna session — for fertility protection, comfort, or performance — natural fibers alone can't do it. The physics doesn't change because the fabric is organic.
Some men wear Ryker for the fabric safety and add IcedBallz for the active cooling. If you can only pick one and your priority is temperature management, IcedBallz is the tool for the job.
